BiWeekly Bundate 8-2-25
Binkies (Gags, goofs, other positive notes from the week/fortnight)
- Fly Honey Show 7/25 - this thing was hella cool! Super queer and body positive. it was awesome. Sad that it was apparently the last time they were doing it.
- the energy from people regarding the shit with payment processors is awesome to see. Like, my bsky timeline is almost wall-to-wall people talking about this and encouraging one another. It's been super cool, even if the reason for it is not great. But they will break. I've had two Visa people hang up on me over it; these cunts are bothered.
- Started a new cross stitch piece and going ham on it. folks in mint's discord voted on what I should make.
What I've been Playing
- New Fields of Mistria update has me fiending, tbh. Really wanna keep rolling with it and make some progress. Also, I can finally date. I will soon be one step closer to my wife, Reina.
- Duodecim has me in a fucking vice-grip. I meant to take a little break from Jeanne d'Arc and then come back, but I've put a bunch of time in since and haven't gotten back to it.
- The Archipelago game has been fun. I was playing Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga and it's super fun to play again cause it was a good ass game, but also on archipelago, it's more like I'm playing a metroidvania? It was a lot of fun. Also, satisfying seeing the massive list of stuff left in my world spawn into the remaining ones
- also started regular version of the game cause I don't remember so much of this thing
- weird as it is to say, I feel like I haven't been playing enough video games lately. Maybe it's because I've basically been playing almost entirely stuff I've played before. Guess I should consider playing something new (to me)
What I've been Watching
- Rewatched The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) - pretty solid, overall. My half-joking thesis on why it works better than any other interpretation is that it's not afraid to have a giggle, to make a joke, even at the expense of Robin*
- the obvious exceptions being the animated Disney version and Men in Tights
- Saw the new Superman. Really good. Like, just as a whole ass movie. Also, best comic book movie in god knows how long. I dunno, it felt unapologetic about being a comic book movie and it also caught me off guard once or twice. I've never been a huge Superman fan, but this movie really made me like him. Wild.
- We watched a solid chunk of My Melody and Kuromi and hey? Why is it so fucking good? Why am I emotionally involved in this??
- Continuing to rewatch King of the Hill and it's got me thinking a bit. Aside from working on my favorite episodes list, I'll probably write up something else. Look forward to that this week, maybe.
What I've been Reading
- bruh, I'll be so real with you, i've been so tired lately, i haven't done enough reading
- started Gachiakuta though and it's so cool from the jump
- Finished up Hellboy in Hell. I didn't quite expect it to go the places that it did, but it was hell of a ride. Even Mike Mignola said he wasn't really expecting it to go where it did and definitely not as fast as it did, but that's how stories go sometimes. A great ending for the Boy.
Diss updates
"Adaptations without sources: The Adventures of Robin Hood" - basically an argument talking about the fact that there's no sort of canonical text for Robin Hood "Back in Black in Sherwood" - an article extending Martone's thesis of how black characters are incorporated into Robin Hood narratives with a new category of them "Treacherous Saracens and Integrated Muslims - The Islamic Outlaw in Robin Hood bands and the Re-imagining of the English Identity 1800 to the Present" - article by Martone which suggests two types of black characters in Robin Hood narratives, pretty solid
- actually starting up the dissertation! So far I haven't done enough, but it's been fucking rough, y'all, so I'll take literally victory right now
Other general thoughts, etc.
Man, idfk, I feel like a lot of my friends have been going through it lately. I mean, "boss, the fascism" and all but it just seems like everyone has felt stretched a little thin and stressed out lately. Obviously, there's like a ton of fucking shit going on all the fucking time and none of it helps. Anyways, if you haven't heard about the shit with itch.io and steam, here's an article FROM THE GUARDIAN about it. Also, if you have and want to do something, but aren't sure, here's some links: https://stop-paypros.neocities.org/ https://yellat.money/ That's all I got this week. Catch ya later.
hey, if ya like what I post, you can toss a few buck here. I don't like shaking the change jar, but it's hard out here, y'all.
